Januray Update

The children have experienced their first session for the Creative Lead project. Nigel kicked off the first session and completed lots of hands on activities. George's Marvelous Medicine was introduced to the children and they came up with some good alliteration examples of names for their creative literacy work.

December update

The final planning and preparation for our Lead Creative School Project is well underway! Our planning has been approved by the Arts Council Wales and children in Year 2 will be starting their journey with our Creative Practitioners Nigel and Mel after Christmas.

The children had a fantastic day in Pentwyn park for the launch trip where they got to know Nigel and Mel and to get a real flavour of the work that they will be doing. Nigel and Mel will be coming in separately after Christmas once a week to undertake and complete the project.

Spring Term Update

The final planning and preparation for our Lead Creative School Project is well underway! Our planning has been approved by the Arts Council Wales and children in Year 5 will be embarking on a journey with our Creative Practitioners Jos and Eleanor in the next few weeks. When the children return from half term the project will kick off with a field day in Cardiff City Centre where the children will begin collecting their photos and moving images for the film 'The Secret World of Cardiff'. The children will then have several workshops with our highly skilled Creative Practitioners in order to create and edit their final piece. The project will help to promote and develop the children's creativity with a focus on spoken word, photography and film making. Keep checking this page for photos and updates!

What is the Lead Creative School Scheme?

The Lead Creative Schools Scheme is one of the key building blocks of Creative Learning through the Arts - an action plan for Wales, jointly funded by the Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government. It is a major schools improvement initiative. The Lead Creative Schools Scheme aims to promote new ways of working in schools through developing an innovative and bespoke programme of learning, in collaboration with Creative Practitioners, that is designed to improve the quality of teaching and learning and to embed this practice within schools. It is based on the belief that creativity is not a skill bound within the arts, but a wider ability to question, make connections, and take an innovative and imaginative approach to problem solving.
