Welcome to Reception!
Our teachers are Mrs Gallivan, Mrs Turner and Miss Randall. Mrs Davies, Mrs Maidment, Mrs West, Mrs Jones and Mrs Tapper also help us with our learning. 

Gosh are we in the second part of the Summer Term already? For the second half of this term our context for learning is Fun in the Sun.

In Literacy we will be reading about the beach and Summer activities.Fred the Ted will be writing us a postcard from Barry Island and we will be writing back to him asking him about all the fun activities he is doing. Pupil voice - some children asked to write about some of their favourite holidays. For phonics we are continuing with building 3 letter words and moving on to finding words beginning and ending with 'sh,th,ch and wh'. Please keep finding 5 minutes for reading with the home reading books. We will be continuing to give a 'Golden 5' award each week to our special reader.

In Numeracy we will be carrying on with writing numbers to 20 and practising adding and taking away within 20.We will be counting on to 100 and learning how to count in 2s ,5s and 10s. We will also be learning about repeating patterns, 2D and 3D shapes and measuring using non-standard measures.The children will be using money in our new role play area, Cadwaladers Ice -Cream Parlour. Pupil voice - some children wanted to count  real shells and pebbles.

Knowledge and Understanding. In Geography the children will be learning about the natural physical featues of Barry Island and locating it on Google maps.

In Science we will be learning about and drawing around shadows. Pupil voice - some children wanted to find out about the natural materials found on the beach.

In History the children will be finding out about seaside holidays long ago.

In Physical Development we are practising our games skills ready for Sports Day and learning beach games. Remember Mrs Gallivan's class has PE Tuesday afternoon and Mrs Turner /Randall has PE Wednesday morning.Could PE kits be brought for these days and for safety reasons no jewellery should be worn.

In ICT we are learning how to use programmable toys. We will be continuing to use Nessy to support our word building and Penpals to develop our handwriting.

In Creative Development we will be listening to and making our own Seaside music. We will be making seaside collage pictures and designing our own Summer t'shirts.

In Personal and Social develpment our value this half term is Respect. Our SEAL theme is Changes. We will also be learning about being safe on the beach and finding out about special places .

In Welsh our context is Ar Lan y Mor. We will be learning lots of new songs. We are also finding lots of new things in our Bocs Bendigedig.
