  • Free School Meals

    Thu 20 Apr 2023

Further rollout of Universal Primary Free School Meals in Cardiff schools

All Reception aged pupils in Cardiff have been successfully receiving Universal Free School meals since September 2022. The next stage of the roll out in Cardiff will see the offer extended to Year 1 pupils from Monday 24th April. To ensure Year 1 pupils do not miss out on their free school meals, families should log onto their ParentPay account and pre order their meals. The menu for week commencing 24 April, will be available on ParentPay from Friday evening.

Facilitating this level of change across all primary schools has presented significant challenges. Each school is different and in addition to issues around space and capacity at many sites, we are also experiencing the impact from ongoing supply chain issues and current workforce pressures .

Despite these considerable difficulties, teams are working hard with the aim of having provision in place so that free school meals will be provided to Year 2 pupils from Monday 5th June 2023 and you will be updated accordingly.

In addition to Universal Free School Meals, families with children of all ages who receive benefits, should continue to register for a free school meal.
