Year 2 2014-2015

Welcome to Year 2's Class Page

Year 2 Teachers are Mrs Patching and Mrs Evans

Year 2 Teaching Assistants are Mrs Hooper and Mr Jones.

Wow! We are in the summer term. We have got a very busy term ahead. We are working hard preparing for our tests. The tests will take place the week beginning 4th May.

Our new topic for the Summer Term is Pirates.

Homework will still be coming home every week. Don't forget to remember to keep reading at home.

Thank you for your support with our Topic Launch Day. We had great fun dressed as Pirates for the day. The children took part in a treasure hunt, they did role-play, they decorated pirate biscuits and made Pirate Ships out of junk.

Sports Day is scheduled for 1st July, we will keep you updated.

General Information

Homework - each week, pupils will be given at least one extension activity to complete at home. Please remember to continue using Bug Club at home for reading with your child.

Home Reading- your child will be provided with a reading book along with a reading diary. As we have such a huge focus on reading at Glyncoed, we ask that you listen to your child for at least 10 minutes every day. We also ask that you leave a comment in your child's diary that refers to how your child has read their book. We will celebrate the children who have at least 3 signatures in their homework diary every week in a special assembly at the end of each half term.

Uniform – school uniform is compulsory. All pupils need to be wearing the school t-shirt (blue/white), school trousers or skirt and a school jumper. Suitable black shoes must also be worn.

PE days – Indoor PE will take place on Monday this term. Kit should include the Glyncoed T-shirt and blue shorts. We suggest PE kit is left in school and taken home each half term for washing. The children only wear it for one lesson a week, so it does not get dirty. As the weather is improving games/ outdoor PE will be on a Thursday. Same kit can be used but please provide a pair of trainers for that day.

Jewellery – please ensure pupils are not wearing jewellery to school that they are not able to remove for PE and games sessions.

Water bottles – pupils are allowed to have  water bottles in class. Please ensure they have lids and contain only water.

Absences – children should not arrive at school until after 8:40 a.m. as they are unsupervised before this time. Latecomers need to sign in at the main reception. If your child is absent please call the school or provide a note explaining his/ her absence. Holidays during term time will no longer be authorised by the school.

School trips – children are encouraged to attend all educational trips which form part of their learning. Costs are kept to a minimum and all pupils are expected to contribute as a  lack of funds can lead to trips being cancelled. We are always in need of parent volunteers.

Class assemblies and concerts – Our Christmas Concert was a great success and all children performed really well. Most importantly they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and wanted to do it again!

We would like to thank you for your continued support for the year.
