Foundation Phase / Cyfnod Sylfaen
The curriculum for children in Reception Classes, Year 1 and Year 2 classes is based on the
principles of the Welsh Government’s guidelines for the Foundation Phase which encompasses
7 areas of learning:
· Personal and Social Development, Well-being and Cultural Diversity
· Language, Literacy and Communication Skills
· Mathematical Development
· Knowledge and Understanding of the World
· Physical Development
· Creative Development
· Welsh Language Development and Multi-Culturalism
Teachers work together to plan an appropriate curriculum that takes account of children's developmental needs and the skills that they will need to become confident.
In Nursery and Reception children learn through experience. This experiential learning consists of focused tasks led by teachers and teaching assistants along with continuous and enhanced provision (sand and water play etc..)
In Year 1 and in Year 2 children learn through experience and increasingly more formal methods of teaching. This experiential and skills based learning consists of focused tasks led by teachers and teaching assistants along with continuous and enhanced provision (role-play corners, construction etc..)
