Monks in the medieval ages lived very quiet and religious lives. They spent much of their days in silence and in prayer. However, the lives of the monks on Lindisfarne were brutally disrupted by the invasion of the Vikings on June 8th 793 AD.

Today we will be looking at what happened in Lindisfarne and why it was important for the Vikings!

Does the resource Lindisfarne help the children work out what exactly happened on the 8th June 793 ad?
According to the writer of the source, who is to blame for the raid? Why? Can we believe him?
Do you think the Vikings came to Wales?

GOLD- Plan and write a newspaper article to retell the story from the point of view of a Viking. Remember to include witness statements. Can you think of a catchy headline? Remember to retell the events using the facts you have gathered.

SILVER- Plan and write a newspaper article to retell the story from the point of view of an Anglo-Saxon. Remember to include witness statements. Can you think of a catchy headline? Remember to retell the events using the facts you have gathered.

BRONZE- Write a diary entry dated on the day of the raid from a monk or Anglo Saxon. Retell the events of the day(s) referring back to the facts that we know and the information gathered by historians. Would it be different from the point of view of a Viking?
