Literacy

Today we are going to plan our own opening for our story.

This means that we are going to need a setting, characters and a problem.

We are going to be writing our own traditional tale, using Beowulf as inspiration.

Use the template and example below to help you complete a beginning table to identify these parts of your story.

Remember, this is a plan, so you can use bullet points to note down your ideas and not full sentences!

Bronze- I would like you to think of lots of varied sentences to describe your characters and setting. Think about your 5 senses when describing the setting. What can you see? smell? hear? touch? taste?

Silver- I would like you to think about what your characters might say and include speech in your 'characters' section. What adjectives could you use to describe your setting and characters? Can you think of some similes and metaphors?

Gold - I would like you to think about what your characters might say and include speech in your 'characters' section. I would like you to use lots of interesting vocabulary to describe your setting and characters. You may want to use a thesaurus to help you! Think about how you can vary your sentences. Can you use similes and metaphors? Can you use alliteration? Onomatopoeia?
