Welsh Starter Activity

Today we are going to be learning some new vocabulary for our topic - Chwaraeon/Ysgol

We will be focusing on the vocabulary for school subjects and building on our oracy skills by practicing our new vocabulary with our favourite Welsh game- Splat!

By the end of the week we will build our own Wal Graffiti for our new topic, using all of the vocabulary we have learnt throughout the week!

Welsh Starter Activity

WALT: To ask whether King Alfred deserves the title ‘the Great’.

Today we are going to be exploring the life of Kind Alfred and looking closely at his actions and presenting his life on a time line.

We will then decide what makes a great king and compare this list to King Alfred's achievements in order to decide if he deserves the title 'the Great'.

GOLD PART 1: Create a mind map of ‘what makes a good king?’. Write a paragraph giving your opinion on Alfred and whether he deserves to be called great.
PART 2: Become a King for the Day- what would you order your army to do? How would you feel if you were unable to defeat the Vikings?
Write a speech to deliver as if you were the King. How would you support your soldiers and lift their morale? Record your speech using oracy skills- clear loud voice, projection, expression and your facial expressions.

SILVER PART 1: Create a mind map of ‘what makes a good king?’. Write a paragraph giving your opinion on Alfred and whether he deserves to be called great.
PART 2: Become a King for the Day- what would you order your army to do? How would you feel if you were unable to defeat the Vikings?
Write a paragraph explaining what you would do if you were in the same position as Alfred the Great.
Perform your speech concentrating on oracy skills- clear loud voice, projection, expression and your facial expressions.

BRONZE PART 1: Using the shared class list of ‘What makes a good king?’ Write a short paragraph giving your opinion on Alfred and whether he deserves to be called great.
PART 2: Take on the role of Alfred the Great- what would you do to be a great King? Act out what he did and how he felt about it.
