In school this week we are going to be 'catching up' on some of our basic numeracy skills which we will need to make sure we have remembered in order to progress in Year 2.
Below is a suggestion of games which you can play to consolidate some of these skills.
Fizz Buzz – sit in a circle and count from 1.
Choose fizz for multiple of a number, say 5, and buzz for
multiples of a number, say 10.
Match it – team players have a piece of paper and pen. Write a calculation on paper in which the answer is
between 0 and 20. Show calculation and look
for someone else who has the same answer, the first pair
to match are the winners.
Data collection nature hunt – children will have to decide
what nature items they will be looking for and
then record the data on a piece of paper, in a drawn table. Ask children to
ensure they are using their tallying skills. Ask children to
then report back their data using appropriate terminology
such as most/least.
Telling time bingo - players draw a 3x2 grid and fill in with digital or analogue times. It is suggested to work with all o'clock times or all half past times etc. Bingo caller to shout times for players to cross off their grid. Winner is the first person to cross all times.
