Year 1

Mrs Chapman and Miss Lynham welcome you to the Year 1 Class Page.

You will find lots of useful information here. We're please to introduce you to our new topic-

... Rio de Vida!

Oi!
Hot, hot hot! Dancing feet, step to the samba beat! Shake it, shimmy, hands in the air, wave your flags in the cool night air.

Come join the party down in Rio, keeping the rhythm with your party shaker! Bright colours, patterns and feathers... Can you make a headdress or party mask?

Meet magical creatures from Brazil's myths and legends and create your own too... Be as fancy as you like!

Let's get down to Rio where football is king, and practise our own skills on golden beaches.

Now, we need a plan a celebration with fabulous music and song. Let's invite parents and friends - they'll all come along!

Bem-vindo ao Brasil os meus amigos!

We'd like to invite you to come to our Samba celebration Class Assemblies:
Miss Lynhams 5th of July 2016
Mrs Chapmans 13th of July 2016
We hope you can come!

General Information

The Year 1 Team

Teachers: Miss Lane, Mrs Chapman and Miss Lynham

Teaching Assistants: Miss Davey, Mrs West, Mrs Stimpson, Miss Tapper

Morning lining up procedures- For safety reasons we kindly ask parents to enter the school grounds via the second gate on the junior yard. When the bell rings, children enter the infant playground via the middle gate. We ask that parents leave children at this gate and do not enter the infant yard. Teachers are unavailable for discussions in the mornings (child safety). Please see us at the end of the day or ring the office to make an appointment.

Dismissals- Year 1 pupils will be dismissed from the junior hall. Reception pupils from the infant hall and Year 2 pupils from the main infant entrance.

Attendance-  as you know, regular attendance at school is very important. Our school attendance target is 96% therefore we ask that you take holidays in school-holiday time, not in term time. We also ask that you make dental and doctor appointments at the end of the school day where possible.

Absences-  children should not arrive at school until after 8:40am as they are unsupervised before this time. Latecomers need to sign in at the main reception. If you children are absent, please call the school or provide a note explaining their absence.

Snack -  We are a healthy school and therefore snacks usually consist of fruit and/or vegetables. We would ask that children either bring in their own snacks or they can buy from the fruit trolley. Fruit is usually 20p or 30p. Children can also bring in a bottle of water for drinks throughout the day.

Homework - each week, pupils will be given 1 extension activity to complete at home.

Home Reading- your child will be provided with a reading book along with a reading diary. As we have such a huge focus on reading at Glyncoed, we ask that you listen to your child read at home and ask that they read for 10 minutes everyday. We also ask that you leave a comment in your child’s diary that refers to how your child has read their book.

Uniform-  school uniform is compulsory. All pupils need to be wearing the school t-shirt (blue/white), school trousers or skirt and a school jumper. Suitable black shoes must also be worn. We kindly ask that you label your child's clothing to avoid it getting taken home by another pupil by mistake. Lost property will be gathered each day and kept in a box in the Infant Hall.

PE days – pupils will need indoor kit for the autumn term. Our PE day will be a Tuesday. Kit should include the Glyncoed t-shirt and blue shorts.

Wellington boots- as a large amount of time is spent learning outdoors, we ask that all children are provided with a pair of wellington boots. Please remember to label these with your child's name and class.

School trips – children are encouraged to attend all educational trips which form part of their learning. Costs are kept to the minimum and all pupils are expected to contribute, as lack of funds can lead to trips being cancelled. We are always in need of parent volunteers.

Class assemblies and concerts – the infant pupils will take part in a Christmas concert this year and class assembly dates will be confirmed shortly.
