Literacy
Creative writing task
Can you read the book Doras Eggs with your child. If you don't have a copy you can find a version on youtube. Discuss the story and sequence of the story. How do you think Dora is feeling when she realises her eggs are about to hatch? Can you describe your favourite part of the story?

Encourage your child to draw a picture of their favourite part of the story. Can they describe what is happening? Afternoon children can mark make in response to the story trying to hold the crayon in a pincer grip describing what they have drawn.
Morning children can attempt a sentence about their drawing.
For example based on ability: Some children who are able to identify sounds in their writing might build a simple sentence using high frequency words 'I like ....'. Some children will be able to use some sounds in their work to represent this. Some children may be able to use marks and lines to represent this sentence. Some children will be drawing a picture to represent their ideas.
Using this story discuss other animals on the farm- baby chicks hatch from eggs and are called chicks, can they discuss other animals on the farm and what their babies are called? Can they make their own farm with big and baby animals? Sing the song below with your children they have been learning it.

Remember it is important to keep singing nursery rhymes every day and to share stories with your child.
Handwriting
Afternoon children could practise making lines, circles and crosses in a large scale way on paving stones outside with sticks in mud or inside on paper with coloured crayons or felt tips.Morning children can explore forming 'zig zag monster' letters. These are letters 'z, v, w, x.' Remember it is important for children to explore creating these letters in lots of ways, rather than just using a pencil e.g. in paint, in sand etc.

Reading
Remember to continue reading a variety of stories with your child. It is important that children learn how to use books for example turning pages, holding the book the correct way, discussing the pictures in detail, predicting what might happen in the story and locating text on a page and knowing the direction of the print. This week morning children can practice the words: no, go, he. here. There are further phase 2 flashcards on the phonics play website.
Phonics
Most of the afternoon children are working on Letters and Sounds Phase 1.This week you could make up a sound story with your children perhaps a visit to the farm making the sounds of the different animals you would find there.Morning children could recap of all of the phase 2 sounds we have learnt so far. Please use the phonics play website to practice and reinforce sounds. Maybe you could go on a sound hunt around the house and see what you can find that begins with that sound. Recap all of the sounds we have done so far: 's, a, t, p, I, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll and ss.
Numeracy
Can you explore number formation with your child this week, alongside reinforcing recognition of numbers and touch counting accurately. Mix up the numbers and see if your child can order them correctly. Remember start 0-5, then to 10 and then to 20. Reinforce some maths language by asking some simple questions like can you tell me one more, one less, how many all together etc.
